Our most ambitious event based project to date!

The Winter Forest is a brand new concept for 2017. Located in Exchange Square, Broadgate, it is right in the City of London next to Liverpool Street Station. Broadgate Estate had hosted an ice skating rink for the last 30 years and the British Land commercialisation team wanted a dramatic change for 2017.

We first met up with the team in February 2017 to inititiate discussions and start bouncing ideas around. Early concepts were based around an Apres Ski chalet which unfortunately wouldn’t work in the location due to weight restrictions. The core concept eventually developed into escaping from the city inside Tipi’s encapsulated by a forest.

We travelled the country to experience life inside a tipi, source Christmas trees and see how big a cinema screen would fit into a tipi. The design developed and we included a private dining offering, a huge double tipi housing a bar and grill and a separate single tipi with a pop-up cinema showing festive favourites.

The experience had to be magical, so we installed a full on – actual winter forest consisting of over 400 snow covered, illuminated Christmas trees with 2 experiential and instagram worthy entrance tunnels leading customers into the event. Once inside the double tipi, with a gluhwein in hand you are completely disconnected from the high rise glass and steel of the city and are completely surrounded by a frosty pulsating forest.

We partnered with marketing agency Chocolate to name and brand the event, who created the name the winter forest and the associated campaign around the event.

The event space was a particularly tricky location due to the multiple restrictions that come with such a city centre based environment, but we managed over a 3 week installation period to install over 300 plywood boards, 900 sq metres of outdoor carpet, 3 tipis, 400+ Christmas trees, 30,000 led lights, 50 bean bags, 5 indipendant retailers, and project managed over 20 suppliers.

The event runs from November 2017 to mid Jan 2018 and is exactly how we envisaged it to be.

We are delighted to have been involved in this project and have partnered with many amazing suppliers and collaborators (too many to mention).

The event was delivered over a 3 week period, including constructing a new sub floor consisting of 000 plywood boards, with a DDA compliant ramp, 000 meters of outdoor carpet, erection of 3 tipis, installation of 400+ Christmas trees (which were covered in fake snow). We installed a Bar, 2 grills, 5 private dining booths, 3 drink tricycles, 5 retail chalets, a popup cinema and dressed the be-jesus out of the space. The install plan could be confused with a new version of the twelve days of Christmas!
